What is it?
A 200,000m3/d reverse osmosis plant in Algeria.
Who is responsible?
GE Water is co-developer (with AEC) and technology supplier. Besix and Orascom were EPC contractors. Toray supplied the RO membranes and ERI the energy recovery devices.
Why is it shortlisted?
- It is the largest RO desalination plant to be completed in 2007. It is also the largest desalination plant in Africa.
- It is the first of the new generation of desalination plants to come onstream in Algeria. It makes a significant contribution to solving the water crisis in the capital, Algiers.
- It is the first major stand-alone RO plant to be built with a technology supplier who is not the EPC contractor.
