Who is responsible?
The development consortium comprised AEC and Geida (Befesa, ACS, Sacyr Vallehermoso). Crédit Populaire d'Algérie arranged the finance package.
Why is it shortlisted?
- At $230 million, Hounaine is the largest locally financed desalination project in North Africa to date.
- It represents a strong vote of confidence in the abilities of the Geida consortium, which will shortly commission the Beni Saf desalination plant.
