Doosan Hydro
Desalination Company of the Year
What is it?
The membrane desalination arm of Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction.
What has it done?
During 2007, Doosan Hydro won three major deals: the 136,000m3/d Shuwaikh SWRO plant in Kuwait, the 150,000m3/d Shoaiba extension in Saudi Arabia, and the 65,000m3/d wastewater RO plant at Luggage Point, Queensland. With Hydro's historic small-scale RO business continuing to grow apace, the company doubled its staff and revenues during the year.
Why is it shortlisted?
- 2007 was a transformational year for Doosan in the reverse osmosis market. Through its convincing grasp of membrane technology, it has established itself as a significant player in the market for large-scale desalination projects.
- This achievement is even greater given that it has won projects in two of the most challenging markets for RO: Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
- Doosan deserves recognition for the way in which it has successfully implemented its strategy of diversification away from thermal desalination, despite skepticism in some parts of the market.
