Aqualyng/Aqualyng Holdings
Desalination Company of the Year
What is it?
A Norwegian desalination company founded by the Lyng Group, and now owned by Staur Holding, the Lyng Group and Aqua Venture. Aqualyng Holdings is its financial arm. It has its own energy recovery technology, the Recuperator.
What has it done?
In 2007 Aqualyng secured contracts including the 100,000m3/d Caofeidian Power Plant project in China, the 114,000m3/d Hawkes Bay project in Pakistan, the 4,800m3/d project for Sohar Iron & Steel in Oman, and the 8,000m3/d plant for the Royal Palace in Jeddah.
Why is it shortlisted?
- 2007 was the year that Aqualyng became turbocharged. Starting out as an obscure Norwegian EPC contractor with a handful of small references and some interesting technology, it ended the year competing successfully to build and finance projects ten times the size of its previous references.
- The Jeddah Royal Palace project, where Aqualyng acted as technology supplier, was commissioned within five months of signature. This must be a world record for getting a plant of that size delivered and online.
- Aqualyng's achievement is even greater given that it has been achieved without the comfort of a protected home market.
