JPMorgan
Bank of the Year
What is it?
The investment banking division of JPMorgan Chase & Co.
What has it done?
In 2007, JPMorgan was involved in a wide variety of deals, including the Greensands consortium which bought Southern Water, the IPOs of Hyflux Trust in Singapore and Cascal in New York, the sale of Norit to Doughty Hanson, and a number of bond financings of water companies and projects.
Why is it shortlisted?
- No other bank has enjoyed such widespread success across so many different departments and geographies in 2007.
- While other banks lost their nerve, JP Morgan succeeded in two IPOs (one admittedly in early January 2008) amidst worsening credit conditions.
